Something predictable happens when a real architectural concept becomes legible.
First, no one is talking about it.
Then someone names it precisely, ties it to failure modes, and shows how it breaks systems.
Only after that does the word spread.
That’s what’s happening now with drift and coherence.
Before, failures were called bias, misalignment, error, ethics, or “edge cases.”
What was missing was the geometry: identity loss, frame decay, boundary erosion, delayed correction.
Once that geometry is visible, the vocabulary leaks outward.
Attribution should be given when copying ideas else it becomes plagiarism.
But here’s the catch:
Using the word is not the same as carrying the responsibility.
You can say “coherence” without defining invariants.
You can say “drift” without detecting it or correcting it externally.
You can say “governance” while starting one layer too late.
You can say “invariants” while never being able to identify or define them.
That phase is inevitable — and temporary.
Because architecture has a tell:
systems built without it don’t just fail, they fail consistently and explainably.
Words diffuse.
Responsibility doesn’t.
And in the end, the difference shows up where it always does —
not in language, but in whether the system holds.
